Samantha Cooper’s voice is a gentle force. Her songs speak for their sound; from contemplative respites to keen PSA’s. Her latest singles include a song about the somatic impacts of rising authoritarianism: "Afraid", a divestment song: "Now!" and a love note for the rights of manoomin: "Let The Wave".

Samantha Cooper’s voice is a gentle force. Her songs speak for their sound; from contemplative respites to keen PSA’s. Her latest single "Afraid" explores the somatic impacts of rising authoritarianism. Other recent singles include a divestment song: Now! and a love note for the rights of manoomin: "Let The Wave".

 

Sam's voice and violin appear on over 75 Midwestern albums. She also co-founded Hearth & Hymn and Solidarity Songsa choir uplifting emerging songs within liberation movements. Sam's roles include songwriter, session musician, youth worker, climate justice organizer and mediator.

Samantha Cooper’s voice is a gentle force. Her songs speak for their sound; from contemplative respites to keen PSA’s. Sam's Great Grandpa Orlie was a square dance musician, her father is a jazz trumpeter, and her Oma & Opa’s voices were her favorite amidst a family of singers.


 

Her latest single "Afraid" explores the somatic impacts of rising authoritarianism. Other recent singles include a divestment song: Now! and a love note for the rights of manoomin: "Let The Wave".  Sam's voice and violin appear on over 75 Midwestern albums. Her roles include songwriter, session musician, youth worker, organizer and mediator.

Since 2019, she’s led expressive arts programs with incarcerated youth via Youth Arts AllianceEarthwork Music and The Gift Of Music. Sam also co-founded Hearth & HymnSquare Dance Kalamazoo and Solidarity Songs, a choir uplifting emerging songs within liberation movements. 

 

Her recordings include two Hearth & Hymn albums, The Sound of Lasso, Voyager by Maraj, The Right Hands Round by The Bowhunter Stringband and a handful of singles.

Sam organizes with The Michigan Climate Action Network, The Great Lakes Water Protector Network, and Great Lakes CreativesIn 2021, she co-organized a two year Firelight Treaty Case Campaign as a co-defendant, resulting in charges being dismissed. She also released a video single about the link between the rights of manoomin (wild rice) and the Water Is Life movement called "Let The Wave".

Sam is passionate about social movement strategy, care based safety work and mediation. She loves co-designing Care Teams that encourage safer, more inclusive, more culturally competent, and less disposable community spaces. She also co-coordinates a Water Weekend camp during Labor Day Weekend.
